Linguistics
#hobby
My love for linguistics is a strange one, but ever since I was young I had a lot of exposure to English, from shows and books to video games, I used to consume a lot in English despite not fully understanding it. At the age of 10, the new Harry Potter book released and I had wanted to read it without waiting for a translation, so I decided to do so in English, I understood a decently large chunk and the words I didn't I had looked up. It gave me a lot of confidence to keep using my English, despite it being far from fluent.
In the next few years I kept using it fairly often, I had a friend in middle school who immigrated from the US and we spoke it a lot, but at 14 and with covid on the rise I started being more online and using it very consistently. Since then I have also done some of my high school in English (prior to dropping out) and now I am doing university fully in it. I feel very comfortable speaking it and much more extroverted compared to Hebrew.
Due to my unusual experience with English and SLA I started being interested in the linguistics and more specifically the psycholinguistics. I enjoy reading about it and learning more about languages. I have also made a Constructed Language, but I don't feel like it is good enough to share, I am planning to make some for my Creative Writing world, it should be posted on there once I get around to it.
